About Aakanksha

Aakanksha is like an umbrella patronising services to special children by deploying bottom top approach with 360 degrees spectrum. Those were the days when we were ignorant about the prevalence of disability but after 25 years too what services render today is like a drop in the ocean, when we collate the figures of disability. The 2011 census recorded 2,68,10,557 as disabled population in India and 6,24,937 in our Chhattisgarh State.

To proffer services genuinely more trained faculty and a positive approach Although our state government is very proactive in assisting and supporting persons with disability there is still lacuna in the form of dire need of networking among various organisations working for the same noble cause to reach the unreached areas too.

K.K. Nayak

Mr. K.K Nayak is the founder and chairperson of Aakanksha Institute of Learning & Empowerment. 23 years ago, Mr. Nayak was pained when the special child of his very close friend was in need of special training which was missing in Raipur.

Mr. R.K. Nagpal

25 years ago, in 1994, we were casually discussing mental disability while sitting with our Lions colleagues. Then the friends decided that some work should be done on this or a school should be started in Raipur.

Mr. N.D. Agrawal

Time passed and I felt that if there was a separate big school for these children, where work would be done only for these children. Besides, this thought also came to mind that the school and land should be one’s own. The task was difficult –

Mr. N.K. Dhabalia

The birth of child at home brings joy and happiness for the entire family, but if the child is diagnosed as a special child the scenario is different. All the family members pass through the various stages of emotions before finally accepting the fact.
